THE UK Government remains committed to building nuclear power generation at Wylfa Newydd on Anglesey.

UK Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has reaffirmed the commitment during a meeting with local business organisations and Anglesey MP Virginia Crosbie.

The Zoom roundtable meeting was hosted by Darren Millar MS and attended by Pryderi ap Rhisiart, Managing Director at M-Sparc, the science park at Gaerwen, Dafydd Gruffydd and John Idris Jones, directors of Menter Môn. Menter Môn is a not for profit social enterprise that delivers projects and services across North West Wales.

The meeting was held for the minister to listen to concerns raised by residents and businesses across north Wales about the impact of the pandemic.

Mr Jones asked the minister about Morlais and Wylfa Newydd. The minister said the government was committed to the nuclear site.

Mr ap Rhisiart discussed the newly launched Advanced Research and Innovation Agency and what the agency means for a green recovery, levelling up and increased investment in Wales.

Ms Crosbie thanked the Minister for "saying quite clearly Wylfa Newydd remains part of the UK government’s plans."

Kwasi Kwarteng said: “It’s important I hear the views of businesses across the UK and this roundtable meeting has given me a good insight into the impact of the pandemic here in north Wales and how the government’s support has played out in helping to secure jobs and livelihoods.”
