A COLWYN Bay resident has been moved to thank those who supported a committee dedicated to the successful return of a much-loved clock in the town.

The Colwyn Bay Town Clock Committee had reported last week that a new clock had been installed in Station Road, with thanks given to all those that supported the project financially.

However, Claire Fox, a resident, wants more people to be aware of the clock's return after three years and she thanked all those that worked towards making it happen.

"I just wanted people to know that there's a clock back up there now, and it can be something that were are all proud of as it was a focal point of the bay," she said.

"It was important that it looked a blend of new and old as it's good to maintain a healthy relationship with the past.

"I'm just a member of the public – I just want to thank the people who did this, no matter how they came to do it.

"I am patting them on the back for everything because it's good to have the clock back."

Miss Fox said she was impressed with the work and also the memorial to a Shropshire man who helped work on the original, which came from Joyce in Whitchurch.

Other memorials also include dedications to Andrew Fraser, a Colwyn Bay resident who died in 1984 and in whose name a Trust was established to pay for the original memorial clock.

She added: "We had an old clock in Colwyn Bay that was taken away for restoration but it was too far gone.

"They have had to do a replacement clock. It was taken away in 2018, but the people who did couldn't restore it so they have done a new clock.

"They have tried to make the new clock look like the old one.

"There's a memorial for a person (Peter Bellingham) who died installing the original clock too."
