A LARGE fire that spread across a hillside near Bethesda on Sunday afternoon s believed to have been deliberately caused.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent on crew to the incident in Rachub at about 7.10pm.

About 500 square metres of bracken and gorse was affected during the incident.

Due to the location of the fire it could not be tackled by extinguishing equipment.

A fire service spokesperson said: "We sent one crew from Bangor the incident at approximately 7.10pm on Sunday, March 7.

"Approximately 500 square metres of bracken and gorse was affected.

"There was an inspection only due to the location of the fire, and we checked again on the fire this morning.

"The cause was delibrate ignition."
