A Penmon café has been named Ynys Môn’s favourite takeaway after hundreds of local people got involved in a competition organised by MP Virginia Crosbie.

The Pilot House has a great reputation for pizzas and fantastic meals, which have been available to takeaway or delivery during the pandemic.

Run by Phil Russell and Hayley Peace, the Pilot House received 31 votes – 12 ahead of its nearest rival - and it will receive a certificate signed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson to display in its window.

One person who voted said: “Phil and Hayley make the best coffee and bacon and egg barm on the island. They also make tremendous pizzas which they serve until 9pm. A family business, they offer delivery for those unable to get to them.”

“Congratulations to Phil and Hayley," said Mrs Crosbie.

"They were the clear winners and are a much-loved part of our island hospitality sector.

" I cannot think of a more deserving recipient of the accolade: Anglesey’s Favourite Takeaway.”

Hayley said: “We are humbled and grateful to have been voted the winner of this competition. Thank you to all our wonderful customers.

"We truly appreciate serving our community and will continue to do so.”

The MP also thanked the residents who voted for takeaways across the island in the online competition.

“In many ways, this was a bit of fun but there is also a serious message about how our takeaways have kept open and given us all a bit of normality in a less than normal 12 months,” she added.

“I would like to thank all our takeaways and their delivery drivers for keeping us fed and comforted. It is clear people hold them in great regard because 56 across the island received at least one vote.”
