A FUNDRAISER in memory of a popular figure on Anglesey who died on Friday has already raised £19,000 in less than two days.

Huw Gethin Jones, known affectionately as 'Stretch', is believed to have died due to Covid-19 complications.

A fundraiser set up by Manon Dafydd in memory of Mr Jones, who was from Llynfaes near Llangefni, raised £10,000 in just four hours and has now collected more than £19,000.

The GoFundMe page states that his death brought a 'wave of sadness' to family, friends and co-workers.

The 34-year-old was a TV editor for Caernarfon-based Rondo Media and also an entrepreneur - having set up the craft brewery, Bragdy Mona, alongside five close friends.

He was also known for being a much-loved player for Llangefni Rugby Club, as well as a He was a member of the choir Hogia Llanbobman, and a guitarist and vocalist with rock band #Band6.

Mr Jones leaves behind wife Teleri, children Gwydion, 3, and Math, 1, as well as his parents Ellen and Dafydd and brother Rhys.

The fundraiser in his honour stated: "Huw’s infectious personality would fill the room, always full of fun and telling stories. He gave 100% to every aspect of his life. He was a keen member of Llangefni Rugby Club, was a dedicated member of ‘Hogia Llanbobman’ and the backbone to ‘Bragdy Mona’ Brewery.

"Huw was a big family man, and this page was created to raise money to support the family during this difficult time and in the future."

Even Wales rugby legend George North, who is himself from Anglesey, took to Twitter to pay tribute to Mr Jones.

He wrote: "Such sad news. I’m so sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with his family."

The Island's Assembly Member, Rhun ap Iorwerth, also paid tribute, saying: "We’ve been reminded again on Anglesey today just how cruel this virus is. Care for each other, and do what’s right to keep others safe. My deepest condolences to loving family and friends who are in the depths of their grief this evening, and I wish every strength to all those who have suffered the pain of loss."
