A FIRE that affected 10 acres of land near Blaenau Ffestiniog is believed to have been deliberately caused.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent three crews to the incident near Coed y Brenin Forest in Bronaber on Friday evening.

About 40,000 square metres of gorse and bracken was affected during the fire, a spokesperson for the fire service spokesperson.

"We were called to a fire near Coed y Brenin Forest in Bronaber at about 6.48pm on Friday, February 12," the spokesperson said.

"10 acres, approximately 40,000 square metres, of gorse and bracken was involved.

"Four beaters and hose reel jets were used.

"Crews from Dolgellau, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Porthmadog attended.

"The fire is believed to have been deliberately ignited."
