FORMER I’m a Celebrity campmate Russell Watson is asking supporters to help with the restoration of Gwrych Castle.

In a short video posted by the Gwrych Castle trust on social media, the world-renowned tenor stands on the staircase - which fans of the hit show will recognised as the staircase used by the contestants during the show - and asks the public to help with the restoration of 'this wonderful place'.

He said: "It is a very cold day at Gwrych Castle.

"I am here to basically ask you to help with the restoration of this wonderful place. I know it is wonderful because I spent some time here recently as you know in the I'm A Celebrity television show.

"It would be lovely if you could help towards the restoration or the continued restoration of this beautiful Welsh landmark."

Just weeks ago, Russell told TVs Stephanie McGovern, on Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch, that he has been asked to perform at the Abergele-based castle.

If restrictions allow, the singer said he hopes to carry out a concert performance late summer.

On the show, he said: “We might be going back to the castle which is great news.

“They contacted me about a week ago and said we’ve had an idea about you maybe doing a concert performance here in the late summer with the castle as the backdrop.

“Obviously if it is safe by then it is something we are looking at doing.”
