Christmas Day and Boxing Day are the only two days of the year when Gwynedd Council's waste and recycling collections are not in place.

The Council appreciates that this may cause inconvenience to those who would normally receive a collection on Friday, 25 December or Saturday, 26 December. This is why special arrangements have been made to collect residual waste (green bin or black bags) in the days following Christmas to make sure that no one goes more than three weeks without a collection.

Those who will miss a residual waste collection on Christmas Day and Boxing Day will receive a collection on Monday, 28 December 2020, with recycling and food waste collections the following week.

Although it's a bank holiday, there will be normal collections for everyone who are scheduled for Friday, 1 January 2021.

Gwynedd Council's network of recycling centres will be open over the festive period to help residents recycle and dispose of their extra seasonal rubbish conveniently.

Residents are reminded that they need to make an appointment in advance to attend the recycling centres which will be open until noon on 24 December, and will then re-open on Monday, 28 December. The centres will be closed on New Year's Day and will re-open on Saturday, 2 January. Full details of your local centre and how to book an appointment are available on 'apGwynedd' on your smartphone or tablet device or by visiting www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/recycling

Councillor Catrin Wager, Gwynedd Council's Cabinet Member for Highways and Municipal, said:

“There is much we can all do to reuse items and think about how we can turn a new leaf in 2021 and try to cut down on what we throw away. As a Council we will be looking to launch exciting schemes early in the new year to encourage the re-using of many more items rather than throwing something that may have seen better days straight into the bin.

“Of course, we realise that Christmas celebrations can mean more rubbish than usual but we can all do our bit for the environment over the festive period. We therefore encourage residents to make use of our recycling centres and make an appointment if you need to visit.

"Making an appointment to attend the centres is very easy by visiting the Council's website www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/recycling and details of the recycling centres and your collection dates for the year are also available to view conveniently by downloading 'apGwynedd' on your smartphone or tablet.”

Steffan Jones, Gwynedd Council's Head of Highways and Municipal, added: “Full details of all your waste and recycling arrangements can be found easily online. As part of the efforts to cut down on the use of postage and printing, we will not be posting waste and recycling calendars for 2021 to all households in the county.

“You can check your collection arrangements by downloading 'apGwynedd' on your smartphone or seeing a digital copy of your collection calendar for the year by typing in your postcode on the website www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/whereilive and if you choose, you can print a copy yourself.
