AN ANGLESEY man has been sentenced after being charged with drug driving.

Barry Wyn Jones, 38, of Llanfair-yn-Neubwll in Holyhead appeared before Mold Crown Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to driving whilst under the influence of drugs.

An officer from North Wales Police's Roads Policing Unit stopped Mr Jones in Llangefni in November last year and asked him to provide a drug wipe sample.

Mr Jones tested positive for cannabis and was arrested.

He appeared before court yesterday and was sentenced where he received a fine of £373, ordered to pay £350 costs and a £37 victim surcharge. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Dan Edwards, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Choosing to drive when impaired by drugs is reckless and unacceptable. Not only are you risking your own life but the lives of innocent members of the public.

“Drug-driving is one of the five main causes of serious and fatal road traffic collisions, and we will continue to proactively target drivers who commit a #Fatal5 offence and put them before the courts.

“Our Christmas Anti Drink and Drug Drive campaign is well underway and we urge anybody who knows of anyone who drives whilst under the influence to contact us immediately.”
