OVER 100 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in North Wales in the last day, the latest data shows.

Public Health Wales figures released on Saturday (December 5) show that 132 new cases have been confirmed in the region.

Wrexham's seven day infection rate per 100,000 people is 200.8, and remains by far the highest in North Wales.

The full breakdown of new cases is as follows:

Sadly, 24 people who had tested positive for coronavirus in the last 28 days have died in the last 24 hour period.

It takes the total number of Welsh suspected Covid-related deaths to 2,695.

Ober 17,000 coronavirus tests were undertaken across Wales in the last day, with there having been over 1.5 million tests undertaken since the start of the pandemic.

Dr Chris Williams, incident director for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “New Welsh Government restrictions come into force at 6pm yesterday, covering travel and the hospitality sector.

“People living in Wales cannot travel to areas of England in tier three or areas of Scotland in level three or above. In these circumstances, travel out of Wales is only allowed under limited circumstances, such as for work or education.

“People you don’t live with cannot come into your home, unless you have formed an extended household (or “bubble”) with them (except in very limited circumstances)."

Dr Williams added: "It is now clear from the data that the Coronavirus cases are rising in most parts of Wales, reversing the downward trend we had observed as a result of the fire break.

“We ask the public to observe the regulations and to limit their contact with other people as much as possible so that we all work together to bring the numbers of positive cases down."
