GWYNEDD police will enforce a dispersal order following a rise in youth disorder and violence that is causing "misery to residents" in Pwllheli.

North Wales Police said the order, which enables police to force individuals to leave an area or face arrest, will be in place on Saturday and Sunday after "increasing incidents" of anti-social behaviour in the town.

Parents have been urged to "know where your young people are" and to make sure they are aware that the order is in place.

A social media post on the NWP Gwynedd South Facebook page said: "We are experiencing increasing incidents of anti-social behaviour and disorder/violence amongst youths in Pwllheli.

"A dispersal order will come into force for this weekend in an effort to limit further issues for local residents. Anyone who is asked to leave the area by a police officer must do so. Returning to the area may result in arrest.

"Parents - please ensure you know where your young people are, and make them aware of this notice.

"This dispersal authority will run from 2pm today, for 48 hours."

District inspector Lisa Jones said the order is required as a result of the actions of a "disorderly minority".

"We are committed to ensure the actions of a disorderly minority do not affect our community, and we will not tolerate behaviour which brings misery to our residents," she said.

"This is one of a number of measures at our disposal, and our officers will be visibly patrolling in the area throughout the dispersal period.

"I would like to thank the local community for your continued support."
