A FARMER suffered serious injuries after falling 40 metres into a disused quarry near Penygroes whilst tending to his livestock.
The incident occurred at roughly 4.30pm on Friday and saw a major emergency services operation launched - with mountain rescue teams, the Welsh Ambulance Service, EMRTS Wales and North Wales Cave Rescue all involved.
Once the rescue teams located the injured man, a team doctor was lowered into the quarry and found the farmer lying on the floor unable to move.
He had suffered multiple injuries to his head and legs.
The casualty was then placed on a stretcher which was pulled out of the quarry using a rope rescue system.
He was initially taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd, but is now receiving treatment at the Major Trauma Centre at Stoke Hospital.
