CHARITIES and community groups in Bangor are being sought by Marks and Spencer’s to join its food redistribution scheme.

The company donates surplus food from its food halls to local charities and community groups.

M&S works with and Neighbourly, an award-winning giving platform that helps businesses make a positive impact in their communities by donating volunteer time, money and surplus products, all in one place, to distribute food.

Both organisations have been working to develop a new app to revolutionise how they donate surplus food, its launch was fast tracked to enable extra support during the Covid-19 crisis.

Pete Swallow, Head of Region at Marks and Spencer North Wales said: “We’re extremely proud of our food redistribution programme with Neighbourly that helps provide meals for those in need in our local communities. Across our region there are lots of successful partnerships but with the launch of the app we’re able and eager to do more, so we are looking for charities to come forward to partner with our stores to help us redistribute the surplus.”

Charity and community groups based in the region who would like to get involved in the food surplus programme or other charity initiatives are encouraged to email mandsfood@neighbourly.com to find out more.

It already has schemes in place in Llandudno and Prestatyn and More than 54,030 meals have been donated across North Wales to date.
