A PORPOISE that washed up on a North Wales beach has been put to sleep due to horrific injuries
British Divers Marine Life Rescue confirmed that medics were called out on October 22 to a live stranded Harbour Porpoise in poor condition at Talacre Beach.
However, unfortunately upon arrival, medics found the male, juvenile porpoise had 'severe lacerations' to its head and blow hole and was missing his right eye.
A spokesman said on social media: "After discussions with our consultant vet and another vet on site, the decision was made to euthanize the porpoise as it was in a poor nutrition state as well as the substantial injuries it had sustained (possibly from a boat strike but the examination will confirm the cause of stranding and injuries).
"Big thanks to all our medics who attended and made the porpoise comfortable, Vet Zoe, the vet nurses from Ceyln Vets, Prestatyn and also Mat Wakefield (Strandings Co-ordinator for Wales) for collecting the body on behalf of Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme- UK strandings for assessment."
