There has been a new Coronavirus case at Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones, Amlwch.

Parents and staff were informed earlier today (Friday, October 23) and issued with guidance provided by Public Health Wales.

There is currently no evidence to suggest transmission within the school setting and Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones will open for unaffected classes following the half-term period (with the exception of years 9-13, who will be following the Welsh Government Coronavirus fire-break guidance).

NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect has been informed of the confirmed positive case and relevant pupils and staff have been told to self-isolate for 14 days; and remain alert for any symptoms of the virus, including:

• New or continuous cough

• A high temperature or

• A loss of or change to sense of smell or taste

Those advised to self-isolate should get a Coronavirus test if they develop any of these symptoms, even if they are mild:

A test can be taken by visiting the Coronavirus testing centre (open 10am to 4pm this Saturday and Sunday) at County Offices car park in Llangefni.

This can be accessed via the Llangefni Industrial Estate Road (opposite ATS Euromaster, LL77 7JA).

You do not need to pre-book and it is essential that you stay at home (self-isolate) until you receive your results.

Anglesey’s Chief Executive, Annwen Morgan, said, “Coronavirus rates are currently rising on the Island and unfortunately we may well see more of these cases amongst children of school age.”

She added, “None of us can afford to rest on our laurels as far as this terrible virus is concerned. It is vital that we all continue to follow Welsh Government guidance at all times. Wash your hands regularly, wear a face covering when required and keep social distancing. Our thoughts are with this child, the family and entire school community.”

Anglesey Council continues to work closely with all schools and each one has measures in place to limit the potential spread of virus.

These include extra cleaning, separation of classes and promoting good hygiene amongst pupils.

Information provided to parents and staff has been issued under the instruction of: Test Trace and Protect regional hub on behalf of Public Health Wales Health Protection Team.
