WREXHAM’S coronavirus testing centre will be in the town for at least six months, council confirms.

The new testing centre, set up at the Memorial Hall earlier this month, will be in the convenient location providing local testing for the people of Wrexham right into spring next year.

A council spokesperson said: “It’s the result of a real team effort by the council, Public Health Wales, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, NHS Wales, the UK Government Department of Health and Social Care, the voluntary sector and other partners.”

The testing centre is a ‘drive to’ and not a ‘drive through’, the council clarifies.

You will need to pay to park as normal when you go for your test if it is before 11am – otherwise parking is free in the council-managed town centre car parks after 11am. You can pay using the JustPark mobile phone app.

From now on, you will need an appointment before you attend the centre and the Welsh Government website tells you how to apply. You can also apply using the NHS Covid-19 app on your smartphone.

While you are waiting for a test or your results, please follow the self-isolation guidance on the Welsh Government website.

Commenting at the time on the initial opening of the centre, Wrexham Council’s lead member for communities, partnerships, public protection and community safety Councillor Hugh Jones said: “We’re working with our partners to provide easy-access testing in Wrexham, and I would encourage anyone with symptoms to take advantage of the facility at the Memorial Hall.

“As well as offering convenience for local people, the extra testing will help the council and its partners identify cases more quickly, making it easier to contain the virus.”
