A MAN whose sexual abuse of a child continued in the 1970s, until his leg was amputated, has been jailed for three years.

Richard Williams, 64, of Caeau Gleision, Rhiwlas, Bangor, Gwynedd, was convicted by a jury of six counts alleging indecent assault and indecency.

Judge Timothy Petts told him at Mold Crown Court on Tuesday October 21: The majority of the abuse happened at the age of 17. It had affected the victim’s life from childhood and resulted in severe psychological harm."

Prosecutor Elen Owen had said to the jury the victim told police about the abuse in 2003 but didn’t wish to make a formal complaint at that time.

Williams’s leg was amputated in 1975. The barrister said the last incident had been when naked Williams had been on one leg, but the child ran off.

He never tried anything again.

Defence barrister Owen Edwards said Williams lived on a diet of morphine because of his physical pain. His family would pay a heavy price for his offending 45 years ago. “While he had a trial and continues to maintain his denial, he understands fully your public duty,” counsel told the judge.
