THE company behind plans for a luxury aparthotel with a restaurant and rooftop infinity pool believe it would bring something "unique and exceptional" to Chester city centre.

Walker & Williams are behind a £15m scheme which proposes to repair and redevelop 26 and 28 Nicholas Street by creating a five-star aparthotel, a restaurant and bar of 55 covers, and a rooftop terrace and swimming pool overlooking Chester Racecourse.

The plans also include the redevelopment of 3 Nicholas Street Mews – along with the attached outbuildings and garages – to provide a total of six residential mews cottages, and the construction of two three-storey townhouses on the existing car park.

According to Walker & Williams, who have submitted full planning and listed building consent applications, the project would create 136 new jobs.

The aparthotel company have two sites up and running in Preston and are currently carrying out work to open a new premises in Newgate Street, Chester.

The Grade II listed townhouses at 26 and 28 Nicholas Street were formerly used as offices but have been empty since 2017.

Chester and District Standard:

Max Walker-Williams, who founded Walker & Williams with his wife Laura back in 2016, said: "The plans for Nicholas Street have been a long time in the making and I'm delighted that the planning application for our flagship aparthotel is now up and running.

"We’ve been in discussions about the project with the council, LEP, Marketing Cheshire and others for several months to make sure we get the new aparthotel just right for Chester.

"We have worked really hard to bring something unique and exceptional to Chester that will offer visitors something different and provide a reason for them to stay for longer in the city than they currently do.

"The encouragement and support that we have had so far has been tremendous. There is a clear desire from the Council and others to see new investment like ours come forward now and I can’t wait to hear what people think of our vision."
