A MAN man has been given a suspended prison sentence after being caught drink driving twice in the space of a few weeks.

57-year-old Alan Milne of Pentre Helen Estate, Deiniolen, was first arrested on the evening of Thursday, July 2, after failing the roadside breath test.

North Wales Police were contacted by the Welsh Ambulance Service Control Room who were requesting assistance with an intoxicated male outside the shop on New Street in Deiniolen.

It was also suspected that he had driven to the location.

Officers arrived as Milne was being checked by ambulance staff, and were told he had driven to the location and his car was parked nearby and the key was still in the ignition.

Milne was breathalysed and arrested after providing a high reading. He was taken to police custody where a reading of 106mg of alcohol was recorded. The legal limit is 35mg in 100 millilitres of breath.

He was later released under investigation whilst further enquiries were made and witness statements provided.

Milne was arrested for a second time on the morning of Wednesday, July 29, after a concerned member of the public contacted police to report a possible drink driver leaving the Beran Garage in his car.

Officers traced the vehicle back to Milne’s home address and he was breathalysed and arrested. Due to the high reading of 120mg that was provided he was taken to hospital to be checked by medical staff.

He was later charged and appeared before Caernarfon Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 15th where he was sentenced to two weeks in prison – suspended for 12 months, ordered to pay £128 victim surcharge and £85 costs and was disqualified from driving for 36 months.

PC Scott Martin of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Whilst most drivers are aware of the dangers of drink-driving, it is disappointing that a minority are persistently offending.

“Thankfully nobody was injured during either incident however the consequences could easily have been fatal.

“Choosing to drive when impaired by alcohol is dangerous and unacceptable. We are committed to making the roads safer and have a robust strategy around enforcing the ‘Fatal 5’ offences which includes driving whilst under the influence.

“We have a zero tolerance for this type of offending so we will continue to proactively stop and arrest people who risk their own lives and the lives of innocent people.”
