A LARGE events area has been erected in Holywell.

On Wednesday, September 9, members of Holywell Town Council attended the official handover of the Tower Gardens Events area major components.

Previous reports by the Leader state that an application was submitted to Flintshire Council in the summer of 2019 to build a canopy extending across Tower Gardens off the town’s High Street, which would be used in future for town centre events.

In documents accompanying the proposals, it said: “The primary aim is to establish Holywell as a premier town centre events venue by looking into potential options to make Tower Gardens an all year-round covered events space.

“It will enable more events to be put on and extend the tourist season within Flintshire. The project is funded through the LEADER programme by Cadwyn Clwyd, which is part of the Welsh Government Rural Development Programme.”

A town council spokesman said: “Members will now consider how best to utilise this new facility for the benefit of the community, taking account of the latest government advice and guidelines.

“Members have approved an events grant policy and application process to support other organisations using the area. This will be launched at the appropriate time in the future.”

Holywell’s town market group have posted to their social media page to say that the

The first event that will be making the most of the events area will be an Artisan Market running in conjunction with the Community Market on September 24 between 9am and 3pm.

A group spokesman said: “Due to the shutdown of indoor craft fairs many crafters are looking for places to trade. The new events area is the ideal place to bring specialised markets to Holywell which can only benefit our town.

“The businesses in Tower Gardens are also keen to support the event with some shops having their own stalls outside and others offering the outside undercover window space as pitches for other stalls.

“The Town Council will be raising the canopies on the day so although the event is outside it will all be undercover.”

Any crafters wishing to attend the Artisan Market can do so by showing their interest by going to their Facebook page - www.facebook.com/groups/172679473683815/.
