THE BEAUMARIS inshore lifeboat, the Annette Mary Liddington, rescued a person from a dinghy whose engine had failed at night time in the Menai Strait.

The lifeboat was called out yesterday evening following a call from Holyhead Coastguards.

An RNLI spokesman said: “A two metre long inflatable dingy with one person aboard, had suffered an outboard motor failure. The boat was located on the Gwynedd side of the sandbanks in the Menai Strait.

“The occupant of the craft was wearing a life-jacket and able to assist the lifeboat in locating him by use of an emergency strobe light together with flashing his torch.

“He was taken aboard the lifeboat and his dinghy towed the dinghy to the beach by Gallows Point Beaumaris.”
