A LANDSLIDE caused the closure of the A5 near Betws-y-Coed on Wednesday morning.

Traffic Wales said the single carriageway has been shut in both directions between Bethesda and Betws-y-Coed after becoming submerged by fallen rocks and floodwater.

It said its officers have been on the scene since 9am currently at the scene and clearing the road.

"We have been on site early this morning and are in the process of clearing the debris," Traffic Wales tweeted.

North Wales Police advised motorists to avoid the area "unless absolutely necessary".

"We're advising motorists to avoid the Bethesda area unless absolutely necessary - the A5 is closed due to a landslide," a police spokesperson said.

"Visitors to Zipworld are advised that they have suspended all activities at the sire until further notice due to flooding."
