A WOMAN walking the coastal path on Anglesey had to be helped after she broke one ankle and injured the other.

Moelfre lifeboat station say assistance was requested with casualty care and mainly pain relief by means of Entonox as the lady had slipped and had suffered a suspected broken left ankle and possible fracture to her right ankle.

With the need for extraction and a lengthy stretcher carry to the Ambulance/ road access, pain relief was essential and with several other ongoing incidents at the time an ambulance eta could not be confirmed.

The lifeboat operations manager was contacted by HM Coastguard and confirmed that with the current COVID risk, a minimum number of casualty care trained crew could attend and assist with pain relief using station equipment.

Once on scene and pain relief was given by the volunteer crew member, the lady was made as comfortable as possible (with the additional assistance of North Wales Ambulance service) before Coastguard team members from Moelfre and Cemaes made a fantastic combined effort in carrying the lady in a stretcher some 300-400 meters to the Ambulance.

A Spokesperson from Moelfre lifeboat station said: “This is the second such incident we have been tasked to assist with in two weeks and skill sets of both the coastguard team members and volunteer lifeboat crew combined make an invaluable asset to the community during these exceptionally busy and yet still challenging times.

"This was a very unfortunate accident, the lady and her husband were walking their dog and despite having more than adequate footwear etc, accidents can still happen.

"We would like to thank Moelfre Coastguard for requesting our assistance and thanks to all those involved in the incident and we wish the lady a speedy recovery”
