A SCHOOLBOY from Meliden has won himself a prize after he wrote a rap about his family being his unsung heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Theo Haywood was recently announced as the winner of STABILO's 'Unsung Hero' competition, thanks to his rap having been selected by a panel of judges.

The competition was tough, but Theo wrote his way to success standing out with his piece which STABILO say was 'extremely well written, engaging and very funny'.

Theo said, “I am so surprised and happy because I didn’t expect to win, I feel gobsmacked. The STABILO prize will help me so much to do my homework. I’ve found lockdown not as bad as I originally thought, I have achieved quite a lot during this period and won certificates from school for my home learning so I’m really proud of myself!”

Theo's mum, Amy Wilson, added: "We are so super proud of Theo, he has worked his little socks off with schoolwork over the lockdown period, all without any fuss but we can’t take all the credit. The teaching staff at Ysgol Melyd school have been amazing and so supportive throughout.”

This is the first competition of its kind run by STABILO in association with First News and was aimed to help children express their creativity during a difficult time in the Coronavirus lockdown.

As the lucky winner of the competition, Theo will have his rap published in First News, and win a bundle of STABILO products as well as a classpack for his classmates!
