NINE new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in North Wales, the latest data shows.

Public Health Wales figures released on Sunday show that Wrexham again experienced the highest rate of new cases - with six cases confirmed there in the last day.

Wrexham's total of confirmed coronavirus makes up 1,357 of North Wales' 4,697 cases.

No new coronavirus related deaths were confirmed in North Wales, nor across Wales as a whole in the last day - leaving their respective totals at 405 and 1,579.

To date 266,239 people in Wales have been tested for coronavirus, with 17,451 having tested positive.

Dr Giri Shankar, incident director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “The Welsh Government has announced changes to the lockdown measures effective from Monday, August 10, which will enable indoor swimming pools, gyms, fitness studios and leisure centres to re-open premises. Physical distancing and enhanced cleaning measures must be undertaken.

“Children’s indoor play areas will also be able to re-open their doors, however areas such as ball pits, which aren’t able to be easily cleaned, must remain closed.

“In light of the fine weather forecast this weekend, Public Health Wales continues to remind the public that they have a vital role in preventing the spread of coronavirus by always sticking to social distancing guidelines - staying two metres away from others, and washing hands regularly. When travelling you should also avoid car sharing with people outside your household."
