A SCHOOL has come together through music and have been able to celebrate the end of a difficult year due to coronavirus.

Staff and students at Ysgol Clywedog have been working hard over the last few months as lockdown forced them out of the classroom on a project that would normally see the school come together for a musical celebration.

All done remotely, pupils and staff were shown the product of around 50 people coming together for a pre-recorded performance of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’.

Head of music, Jonathon Porter said: “Usually we would hold a summer and Christmas music concert but due to the virus we were unable to have our summer one this term but still wanted to have some kind of performance at the end of the year to bring people together and showcase the talent at the school.

“Taking part in this virtual performance has allowed students to be involved despite the restrictions. I would like to thank everyone for taking part.

“The lockdown had some challenges but with everyone working online at home through the Google Classrooms we all got to record the individua parts to make up a whole song – some were instrumental, some were singing.”

Mr Porter told the Leader that the song was chosen due to it being ‘very apt’ given the current worldwide situation and wanting to promote some positivity.

He edited to video together and shared the final result first with staff who he says were very positive about the piece.

Mr Porter added: “As a teacher, I want to get as many people into performing as possible and, with all the cuts Wrexham has had to its music service, my aim is to get as many people involved when we can.

“I believe its these kind of experiences you look back on and remember from school - not your everyday life, what made school special and I hope for some of these kids that it is music.”
