A village primary school that was targeted by vandals during the coronavirus lockdown has received a "truly remarkable" transformation by local volunteers.

A garden centrepiece and other items at Castle Caereinion CiW School were found broken last month.

Since then the local community has pulled together to not only restore the damage done but to enhance the area for the children.

Acting headteacher Sarah Brian said she has been overwhelmed by the response.

"We feel incredibly lucky to be part of such a wonderful community," she said. "What started out as a sad incident of vandalism has led to a true show of solidarity here in Castle Caereinion."

"We are very grateful to everybody involved in providing donations, such as Tesco and Morrisons in Welshpool, Clive's Electricals, Castle Caereinion Community Council and also for donations from individual parents.

"A special thanks goes to Lucy Mason for coordinating the clean-up team whilst ensuring social distancing, and to Zoe Swift, Warren Powell, Stacey Beddoe, James Lloyd, Tom Mason, Simon and Kate Atkinson, Nicola and Matthew Holmes and to Sue and Gareth Davies for taking the rubbish away! Your help really is truly appreciated!

"Thank you to everybody in the Castle Caereinion Community for your support from all of the staff and children at Castle Caereinion CiW School. We are overwhelmed and truly grateful!"
