For the first time in its history, Rhayader and Cwmdauddwr Town Council has an all-female line-up taking the helm.

New Mayor of Rhayader Councillor Jane Narborough was elected to serve the community for the next 12 months at the annual general meeting on June 16.

She will be supported by Vice Chair Councillor Lee Price and town council Clerk Julie Davies.

Cllr Narborough grew up in the area and was a practice nurse for 30 years. She has twice sat on the town council, and first joined as a councillor in the 1980s.

Speaking to the County Times about her new role, the Mayor said: “It’s such an honour to be chair of Rhayader and Cwmdauddwr Town Council. It’s quite a surprise. It is quite unusual to have three women.”

She added: “We are a very close community, very very supportive. And everyone is so fantastic for looking out for other people.

“The shops have been absolutely amazing. We have a fantastic volunteer group. It’s a very giving community.”
