A WOMAN has been jailed for twelve months today after police were attacked when called to an illegal lockdown party involving more than 30 revellers.

It happened at Bethesda, Gwynedd, on Saturday night.

North Wales police said three officers were assaulted. A local man was arrested and bailed.

Nerys Williams, 32, of Ffordd Carneddi, Carneddi, Bethesda, pleaded guilty to three charges of assaulting an emergency worker at Llandudno magistrates’ court. Police said one officer was headbutted and another bitten.

Inspector Jon Aspinall said: "Especially at a time when gatherings like this are prohibited, it is very disappointing that my officers are subjected to physical violence while trying to keep our community safe.

"This sentence sends a clear message that assaults on emergency workers will not be tolerated. We will never view such violence as ‘just part of our job’."

North Wales Police Federation secretary Mark Jones said: "This is, yet again, another example where our dedicated, brave and hardworking police officers are attacked for doing their job. It is simply deplorable and those who commit such offences need to face tough justice.

"I am very pleased to see that a strong sentence has been handed out and hopefully it will give plenty of time for Nerys Williams to reflect on her actions."
