A MAN who was seriously injured after a collision on his motorcycle whilst under the influence of drugs has been jailed.

25-year-old Lloyd Watson Lloyd of Penrhyn Avenue, Maesgeirchen was sentenced to 18 months in prison following the incident in Bangor in July last year.

At about 4:15pm on Thursday, July 25 police were called to a report of a collision at speed involving a trails-type motorcycle and a Suzuki on the mini roundabout outside the Union Inn pub on Caernarfon Road.

Lloyd was airlifted to hospital in Stoke with serious injuries.

Following a lengthy investigation by the Roads Policing Unit, Lloyd was charged with driving offences including dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving whilst under the influence of drugs.

At Mold Crown Court today (Tuesday, June 9) Lloyd was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He was also disqualified from driving for 45 months.

Sergeant Meurig Jones of the Roads Policing Unit said: “This was an incident which could have been avoided if Lloyd had complied with his driving disqualification and not ridden his motorcycle that afternoon.

"His irresponsible actions resulted in himself sustaining serious injuries and it is only sheer luck that nobody was killed in this collision.

“Anybody who decides to ride or drive whilst under the influence of drugs pose a significant danger to other road users. Throw a non-licence holder and an uninsured motorist into the mix and the consequences are huge.

"I hope his sentence serves as a reminder to others that the law is there for a reason and should be abided by.
