PARENTS have urged people to not remove the rocks on the snake that children have been building in the community.

The Leader previously reported that the rocky reptile was started by Six-year-old Jacob Smith and his sister Evelyn.

It has since had over 400 rocks added to it, as it continues to grow.

However, Mum Janine said some rocks have been going missing and some are 'moving positions'.

She said: "This makes us sad as we hear children getting upset when they can’t find theirs. Please help protect the snake. Look, but we politely ask that you don’t touch, take away or move the positions.

"We love seeing new rocks added and it would be amazing, and helpful, if they could be added at the end of the snake as children have certain rocks as counters to see how many we have.

"I know the Shotton snake has seen rocks taken and the poor greenfield snake has had its head taken twice. It’s so sad."

The snake is placed at the alleyway on Coppack Close.

A young girl, who can see the snake from her window, checks on the snake every morning to make sure it is still there.

In a bid to deter people from taking rocks, Macey Griffiths, 8, painted a larger rock as part of the snakes 'full tummy',

Mum Emma said: "We saw the rock a few days ago originally out walking our dogs so she made us go back with a little spade to dig it up as she really wanted to add it to the snake so it looked like he had a full tummy we also thought no one could walk away with that one in their pocket.

"She can also see the snake from her bedroom window so can check it’s still there every morning with the size of it."
