AN INSPIRATIONAL little girl has started her challenge to walk 100 miles in the month of June in support of homeless people in Wrexham.

Seven-year-old Thea-Mai Wright made her first six mile walk from her home in Rhosddu to Erddig Country Park and back on Monday.

Rhosddu Primary School pupil Thea-Mai came up with the challenge herself after seeing people all over the country take on challenges for the NHS and other worthy causes.

Thea-Mai wanted to help homeless people in Wrexham. She regularly spends her pocket money on food and drink to give to people in town.

She has already raised more than £720 for Wrexham Homeless, People Helping People.

After completing her first walk, Thea-Mai said: "It’s finally June - yay! That’s six miles done today only 94 miles to go, easy peasy.

"Thank you for following me on this journey, please can you all share the Just giving page for me to help spread awareness of this worthy cause."

Thea-Mai is keeping people up to date with her walking on her JustGiving page and is already being recognised after appearing in the Leader last month.

Proud mum Bonnie, 33, said: "So apparently Thea-Mai is famous! We just went for a bike ride/walk at Acton Park and a lovely older lady was chatting to Thea-Mai about the baby geese, as soon as Thea-Mai removed her helmet the lady suddenly went 'ooh you’re the girl from the newspaper'."

Carolinas Crafts made a tee shirt for Thea-Mai's challenge.

Founder Wrexham Homeless, People Helping People, Dee Davies said that, although a lot of the group’s activities and clubs have had to be suspended during the corornavirus crisis, the issue of homelessness had not gone away and fundraising activities like Thea-Mai’s were more important than ever.

Dee said: “I am amazed that a seven-year-old is walking 100 miles to support people living on the streets in Wrexham. With all that’s going on it’s easy to forget that there are people who still need help and support.

“We are so appreciative of what Thea-Mai is doing and can’t thank her enough.”

People have been leaving messages of support and encouragement on Thea-Mai’s fundraising page.

Barnaby Dickenson said: “Excellent work, Thea-Mai! It’s great that you think of others and are willing to help. Best of luck with all your walking!”
