POLICE officers broke up a gathering at an MP’s home on Bank Holiday Monday following reports of a lockdown breach.

Delyn's MP Rob Roberts said his wife celebrated her 40th birthday on Monday, however he was living in London at the time.

The MP has been in London since he and his wife separated around six-weeks ago.

He said: "It was my wife’s 40th birthday on Monday. I was in London where I have been living since we separated about six weeks ago because there are no estate agents open for me to get anything locally.

"Two people left, so not much of a party, and I was over 200 miles away at the time."

North Wales Police were called to the property on Ty’n Y Coed in Mold on May 25.

Superintendent Mark Pierce said: "In response to two reports of a possible breach of Covid 19 regulations we visited an address at Ty’n y Coed.

"When we called at the property two people visiting the house left following advice and no further action was taken."

Mr Roberts took to social media to say he was not there at the time and his family has been spoken to.

He said on Twitter: “1. I was 200 miles away in London.

“2. My family have been reminded of the guidance set out by the government.”

Mr Roberts also said he returned to the family home on Tuesday evening, as he is 'entitled to return to his constituency home'.

He told our sister title The Leader: "I came back yesterday (Tuesday) at around 6pm to see my daughter for a few days as I haven’t seen her in all that time. Coming back from Westminster to my constituency home is perfectly acceptable. Many MPs have been doing it for weeks."
