A MAN who went behind the wheel whilst disqualified and failed to provide a breath sample has been jailed.

Hugh Lloyd Davies, 37, of Cwm-y-Glo was arrested during the early hours of Wednesday, April 29 following a stop check of his vehicle by the Roads Policing Unit.

Officers were on patrol on the B4366 in Bethel heading towards Pentir when they saw Davies’ van being driven in the distance. The van turned onto an unclassified road so the officers followed him.

Checks were carried out and they discovered that the driver, Davies, was disqualified until 2023.

He was unsteady on his feet when he got out of the van so he was breathalysed and provided a positive roadside reading.

Davies was arrested and taken to police custody where he failed to provide another breath test.

He was charged with disqualified driving, failing to provide and driving without insurance and was remanded to appear before court on the same day.

Davies was subsequently sentenced to 24 weeks imprisonment and disqualified from driving for 51 months. He was also ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.

PC Mark Walker, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Luckily, we were able to pull him over before he could do any serious harm to other road users.

“Drivers who do not hold a licence and are uninsured pose a significant danger to other road users. We hope that the fact he has received a prison sentence sends a clear message that getting behind the wheel whilst disqualified is dangerous and utterly irresponsible – and you will be punished for it."
