A CUB and Beaver Scout group in the New Forest have shown their appreciation of the hardwork being carried out by frontline healthcare workers by making posters and picture cards to say thank you.

Children from the Cub and Beavers troops from the 15th New Forest South Sea Scout Group, aged six to 10, have got creative at home, following the suspension of face to face meetings in alignment with government guidelines.

Both troops successfully held two virtual meetings using group meeting platform Zoom and plan to keep them going even during the Easter Holidays.

Cub and Beaver leader Sean Reeves said: “I also did not want to set anything too complicated or too onerous for them or their parents to take part.

“With everything that is going on I just wanted to do something really simple to show our gratitude and appreciation towards front line workers and key workers and that is when I decided to set my Cubs and Beavers the task of doing a poster, card or message of thanks.”

The 25 Cubs and 19 Beavers then had photos taken with their artwork which were sent on to a variety of civil servant organisations, included Bournemouth Hospital and the South West Ambulance Service.

The Cubs and Beavers group say they will continue to send out a variety of messages, cards and posters as the days and weeks pass just to say thank you.

Sean added: “This will also mean that my Cubs and Beavers will keep up with their badge work as the Beavers are working towards their creative badge and the Cubs are working towards their Artist badge.

“I have also set each young person a Personal Challenge, which is one of their Challenge badges to keep their bedrooms tidy and to help around the house.

Having uploaded the pictures to Facebook, the children and their artwork have received a lot of praise from the public

A hospital spokesperson said: “It is heart-warming to receive such lovely messages, and for staff to know how much they are valued and supported at this time is a real morale-booster.

“It’s fantastic to be able to share this positivity with our teams, and we hope to see more inspiring artwork in the coming weeks and months.”
