VOLUNTEER crew members of the RNLI Beaumaris lifeboat were called to reports of a large object being dropped from the Menai Suspension Bridge.

At 8.12pm, the crew received a request from the UK Coastguard to attend the scene.

The Beaumaris lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington launched at 8.22 pm and proceeded to the area, alongside the Mobile Coastguard Rescue teams from both Bangor and Penmon who had also been deployed in addition to north Wales police units and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter.

A description of what the witness had seen enabled the searchers to locate a chair, which the Beaumaris lifeboat recovered.

At this time the UK Coastguard instructed the lifeboat to return to her station as incident was now considered to be resolved.

The Beaumaris RNLI inshore lifeboat with her volunteer crew arrived back at Beaumaris at 8.50pm the lifeboat then being thoroughly cleaned, refuelled and prepared for her next service call by 9.30pm.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "The RNLI’s priority is keeping people safe in the sea and around our coast as it always has been. At a time when emergency services are already stretched we ask everyone to follow government advice.

"The RNLI is asking everyone to carefully consider the need to go to visit the beach, the coast or go into the water in case they get into difficulty."
