COLWYN Bay striker Joe Chaplin has been awarded for a series of outstanding displays with an award shortlisting.

The striker, who is currently on loan at Gresford Athletic, has enjoyed a new lease of life since the turn of the year at the JD Cymru North side.

He has played a significant role in Steve Halliwell’s men moving away from danger in the second tier, and Chaplin was named as a finalist for the JD Cymru North Player of the Month for February.

The forward won the Huws Gray Alliance title last season with Airbus Broughton before moving to the Four Crosses Arena during the summer.

A number of niggling injuries hampered his progress during Chaplin’s early period with the club. This resulted in manager Craig Hogg agreeing to a short-term loan with Athletic for the player, who is expected back in Bay colours next season.

Chaplin has grasped the chance to impress at the Wrexham area side, turning in some tremendous performances which has played a leading role in their turnaround in fortunes.

The player finished second in a public poll regarding the distinction to Porthmadog’s Shaun Cavanagh, with Bangor City skipper Hugo Colace also shortlisted for the honour.
