There will be severe disruptions to travel today through Bolton train station as coronavirus continues to grip public transport.

The government has strongly advised against any non-essential travel, with travel by public transport a key part of this advice.

However, if you do intend on travelling today, there are severe restrictions in place - even more than you would expect on a normal Sunday.

A number of trains have been cancelled from both Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly/Oxford Road to Bolton, heading towards Wigan and Blackpool.

This has resulted in just one train running per hour out of Manchester, as opposed to the usual three.

There are even more delays in the other direction, with widespread cancellation on trains going into Manchester.

A bus replacement service is running from Preston to Bolton on all trains between Blackpool and Manchester Victoria.

Nearly all trains from Wigan or Blackpool to Manchester Victoria have been cancelled this morning, with the train from Clitheroe the only one running at the time of writing.

At the time of writing trains were only running as far as Manchester Oxford Road, with no trains expected to go as far as Manchester Piccadilly.

Delays to the trains are expected to only worsen during the coronavirus crisis.
