SUPPORTERS of Rhyl FC have set up a crowdfunding page in the hop of saving the club from extinction.

The newly formed Rhyl Fans Association have set a target of £20,000 to keep the Lilywhites afloat, with no matchday income due to the coronavirus fixture suspension plunging the storied club into a severe financial predicament.

Chairman Paul Higginson stated that if the club cannot fine substantial investment or a suitable buyer over the next fortnight, it will be forced into drastic action and fold.

More than £1,5000 has been raised from the page so far thanks to a wealth of donations from football supporters across the region.

The Association has also raised money by re-launching their 200 Club in recent weeks, in addition to offering a seat sponsorship package that has been a big success.

This all contributes to the cause, but more is needed if the Lilywhites’ are to remain in business next season. Operating costs have skyrocketed to £5,000 per month, which is “not sustainable” given the lack of money coming in from competitive matches and community events.

If the club were to take the decision to fold after a glittering history dating back to 1879, it would represent a devastating blow to the community. The club has a thriving Academy system for talented young players from U8 upwards, and it also promotes the women’s game considerably with the female side achieving a large amount since their inception.
