WREXHAM Council have assured residents that they empathise with their current coronavirus anxiety.

The council's chief executive, Ian Bancroft and leader, Cllr Mark Pritchard made a joint statement on March 20, to reassure individuals that advice is available if they are experiencing any financial difficulties due to the virus pandemic.

They said: "As well as the frightening health implications, we know this virus is creating financial anxiety for many people in Wrexham and across the UK.

"People are worried about the economy, their jobs and their businesses.

"Many people are losing hours because they’re having to self-isolate or take time off work to look after their children.

"The country has never faced a peace-time challenge like this before, and it’s still not clear what kind of financial help will be available for many people who are badly affected.

"But we want you to know, that as your council, we empathise and we understand. We share your anxiety.

"If you receive a letter about your council tax in the coming weeks and you’re worried, or if you’re worried about paying your housing rent, we will do our best to help and sign-post you to any support and advice that becomes available.

"As a council, we’re continuing to deliver essential public services, but we’re having to make changes to the way we provide our services every day."
