A BUSINESS group in Wrexham expressed their concerns over the recent coronavirus outbreak and its effect on the town.

The Town Centre Forum, which has been formed by a wide range of businesses and organisations with a common interest in the prosperous development of Wrexham, have issued advice to the public regarding continuing to support independent businesses throughout the virus epidemic.

Chair, Wayne Price, said: "Obviously at centre of our hearts and decision making is the immediate health and well-being of friends, family, loved ones, employees, customers and fellow businesspeople.

"This is the number one priority and I wish everyone the best health over the next few months.

"Personally, I want to wrap them all up in cotton wool until it’s virus is beaten.

"That said looking forward businesses are concerned about the immediate downturn that has been felt over the last few days.

"It’s difficult to comment as things are moving at such a frenetic pace and what I say now will probably be out of date in 48 hours.

"For those in the groups who will be shielded shortly, please contact your favourite cafés, restaurants, hairdressers and shops and ask if you could buy a gift card now for when everything is back to normal.

"They need your support to pay their bills and staff and they will be looking forward to seeing you when all of this is over."

Earlier today, the Leader reported that a number of businesses within the Wrexham and beyond have decided to close their doors due to the virus, which includes cinema chains such as the ODEON, Cineworld and Picturehouse, as well as Theatr Clwyd.

Mr Price, added: "We are looking to offer what advice we can to every business, we’re extremely concerned for the local independent businesses and the sole traders.

"The self-employed will be one the groups hardest hit financially by this crisis.

"We need practical support from Wrexham Council and the Senedd and we hope they can rise to that challenge alongside us.

"We will be holding regular online town centre forum meetings starting soon, so we can support our treasured local independent businesses."
