A LONG-STANDING shop in Wrexham is set to bring its closure forward amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The Alun Hughes Film, Music and Nostalgia shop was expected to close at the end of March, but after listening to the latest advice by PM Boris Johnson regarding the current state of the epidemic, the business will now be closing its doors earlier than expected.

Alun Hughes, owner of the shop, which has been in operation for seven years, took to social media on March 16, to express his sadness over this unforeseen decision.

He posted: "After listening to Boris Johnson tonight (March 16), I have taken the decision to bring forward the date of the shop's closure to this Saturday (March 21).

"Most shops in Wales seem to be remaining open at the moment, but I feel it is appropriate to bring forward the timing of this shop's last day by one working week.

"It seems a terrible shame that we have arrived at this type of scenario laying before us, but I'm not going to ponder on that on this post.

"Two things, firstly, please look after yourselves over the coming weeks and months.

"Especially look after the older folk and those with pre-existing conditions, take care.

"Secondly, just a second round of thanks for the wonderful years that I have enjoyed in this shop.

"It has been a real pleasure working with Sarah (my daughter) for over a decade and serving the good people of Wrexham.

"Wrexham is a wonderful town to conduct a business.

"We have built up such a great bunch of customers over the last few years and this year has been the busiest of them all."

Mr Hughes has spent 43 years within the trade, which saw him working in various parts of North Wales, such as Rhyl and Holywell, but due to his age has decided to 'go out on a high'.
