AN ICELAND store on Anglesey will join in with a nationwide initiative to open exclusively for elderly and vulnerable shoppers for two hours on one day a week.

Starting on Wednesday, the Holyhead store will introduce special opening hours, as a result of panic-buying which has taken place following the coronavirus outbreak.

A spokesperson for the company said: "This Wednesday, we will be opening our store 9am-11am for the elderly (state pension age) and the vulnerable so they can do their shopping.

"Also as of Tuesday, your local Holyhead store will be open from 9am to 5pm until further notice. Sunday trading will remain the usual 10am to 4pm.

"We thank you for your understanding during this difficult time."

Social media users described the supermarket chain's initiative to help the elderly and vulnerable as "amazing" and a "fabulous idea".
