A SELF-TAUGHT tattoo artist from Anglesey was among the prize winners at the 2020 Best of Welsh Business Awards.

At the glitzy ceremony held at Maes Manor Hotel in Blackwood on March 8, Mo Jones of Mo’s Modifications won the Best Tattoo Artist award.

Mo, from Holyhead, has been running the business for just over four years and has recently opened a new studio on London Road.

The 28-year-old, who was born and bred in the Anglesey town, is described by her partner of one-and-a-half years, Frances McDonald, as an “inspiration to everyone”.

She added: “Mo tries her absolute hardest to smash her work and always tops it every time. I am immensely proud of her. Despite all the struggles she’s had to deal with, she comes back swinging each and every time.

“I’d like to tell her to keep rocking and rolling, all her friends and everyone in her family are so proud and honoured to have her in our lives.

"Her dad, who passed away five years ago, would be so proud as it was his dream for Mo to be a professional tattooist. He would always be her biggest fan. They use to do everything together, they were in a Black Sabbath tribute band and he loved Ozzy Osborne. He was a massive influence in her life."

Frances, who works at Betfred, has had 15 tattoos done by Mo - including one of famous singer songwriter Beyonce.

On Valentine’s Day this year, Mo dedicated a whole day of tattooing animals such as koalas and kangaroos to raise money for the Australian bush fires. She managed to collect £450.

Taking to social media to celebrate her award win, Mo said: "I'm absolutely speechless, over the moon.

"Thank you, every single one of you, for supporting me, voting, your kind words and love. I really do appreciate every single one of you, without you all this wouldn't have happened.

"I Met some really lovely people at the awards, well done to everyone for winning and even just being nominated.

"It's onwards and upwards for Mo's mods. Keeping Holyhead holier and inked!"

Other Best of Welsh Business award winners from Anglesey included fellow Holyhead-based Urban Tiger (best restaurant) and Môn Taxis (Best Taxi Service).
