A Newtown pizza parlour has been crowned the best in Wales.

Competition was fierce, but 7 Pizza Parlour in Severn Street was crowned winner of the Best Pizza Takeaway trophy at the first ever Welsh Takeaway Awards.

Owner Andy Meek said he is “chuffed to bits” that his prized pizza has been rewarded ahead of businesses based in Cardiff and Swansea.

He said: “What makes the perfect pizza for us is making everything fresh every day. We buy the products that we think are the best. It makes a difference.

“I do think the award isn’t just about pizzas – this isn’t your typical takeaway. There’s a real family atmosphere here and we’re very lucky to have brilliant customers."

Andy’s dream of running a pizza parlour began 30 years ago when he was a police officer in Newtown.

He said: “I was working nights in the 1980s and I said ‘you know what, I fancy running a pizza place when I retire’. And that’s what I did.”

This Easter, Andy and the staff at 7 Pizza Parlour will be celebrating six years of running an award-winning business.
