AN APPEAL has been launched after part of a gate at a Flintshire heritage site was taken.

The Bailey Hill tripartite steering group - which includes Mold Town Council, Flintshire Council and Friends of Bailey Hill (Ffrindiau Bryn y Beili) are asking for residents’ help in locating the missing “bowling man” from the iron gate on the inner bailey.

Construction work started on site on February 13 to improve the Bailey Hill entrance and some of the paths as well as to build an outside performance area on the inner bailey.

Last week it was reported work had started and that areas of the inner bailey have been cordoned off for health and safety purposes.

The Leader:

As part of the redevelopment it is extremely important to the tripartite group that the history of the bailey hill remains the focus and this includes keeping key features such as the golden bowler.

Over the weekend it seems that the bowler has carefully been removed, although the gate remains in place.

The Leader:

Jo Lane, Bailey Hill project officer, said: “It was a surprise to come in on Monday morning and find that the bowling man from the iron gate near the play area has gone missing.

“I do not believe he was taken in malice, but maybe by a concerned resident who thought we would not be retaining him in the redevelopment. “It has always been the plan to retain the bowling man and for him to be integrated into the fencing of the new play area.

The Leader:

“Therefore, if this is the case I would really appreciate it if he could be returned - or if anyone knows where he might be then please get in touch.”

Anyone who wishes to return the bowler anonymously can do so via Mold Town Hall’s post box addressed to Jo Lane, Bailey Hill Project Officer.
