SEVERAL parts of Anglesey will be celebrating St David's Day over the weekend and during next week too.

A series of Menter Môn events in honour of the patron Saint of Wales will start from 10am at St Mary's Church, Holyhead this Friday.

Two empty bay windows, central to the town, have been transformed to support the celebrations. The creative displays, of Welsh characters and artefacts, were put together by Ysgol y Morswyn pupils and Merched y Wawr under the leadership of Gladys Pritchard.

Alun Roberts, Chair of the St David’s Day Celebrations Committee said: “Gladys Pritchard, on behalf of Merched y Wawr, is a key volunteer of the Holyhead’s St David’s Day celebrations, and together with the pupils of Ysgol Morswyn they’ve achieved a miracle, bringing the sunshine of our national daffodil to the middle of town as passersby stop to admire.”

Following on from Holyhead's event, there will be further celebrations in Amlwch (2nd), Beaumaris (3rd) and Llangefni (4th).

Next Thursday, the Grand Concert will be held at Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi secondary school at 6pm. The £1 entry ticket at the door pays for a feast of music by young people and popular performers, as well as a feast of hog roast at the end.
