A 23-year-old cannabis supplier caught at Bangor more than a year ago was spared jail on Friday.
Ashley Crowther of Cae Mawr, Llandudno, was given an eight months sentence suspended for 18 months. In addition he must carry out 180 hours of unpaid work, 30 days rehabilitation activity, and a year’s drug rehabilitation.
Judge Huw Rees ordered that £730 in cash found when he was arrested should be forfeited.
Dafydd Roberts, prosecuting at Caernarfon crown court, said Crowther was a passenger in a car stopped at Bangor in January last year. He was carrying five packages of cannabis containing 90 grammes, with a street value between £540 and £660.
He pleaded guilty to being in possession of cannabis with intent to supply. Elen Owen, defending, said he had been homeless at the time, sofa surfing and fell into temptation.
The judge said that for some reason Crowther had not been charged until eight months later.
He told him: "You were intending to meet a girl and have a party in student accommodation. People like you should not come to Bangor. There are enough problems, enough drugs swilling around.”
