Gwernymynydd Pantomime Company is celebrating their 10th anniversary show with a slap-stick panto based on the all-time family favourite Cinderella.

But director and writer Cameron Williams has added a few twists to the tale for audiences of the five sell out shows.

Cameron says demand for tickets was so high for the family show that the company added an extra date this year.

He said: “A decade on from our first show and the pantomime is still going strong. This year, the incredible cast of 18 have worked their socks off to deliver a show like no other.

“There are also countless volunteers involved who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure a smooth running of the pantomime and without them the show wouldn’t be as successful.

“We are also extremely lucky to have a vast amount of support from the local community and surrounding areas which come in the form of donations, sponsorships, transport, publicity, marketing and much more.”

He added: “It’s no surprise after the success of our previous nine shows we sold out of tickets in record time this year – six days! So, it only seemed right, with demand so high, to add an extra performance.”

Gwernymyndd Pantomime Company chair Karen Jones who has been involved since the company formed 10 years ago says the annual show is a real community event.

She said: “We have so many people who give up their time to make the show the success it is. Make-up artists, hairdressers, chaperones, stage, lighting and technical crew. Even a car park marshal.

“Our costume designers have been hard at work for months as have the cast, directing and choreographer teams. It all comes together for a magical show that sees young people, some still at primary school, working alongside older people to produce something magical.

“I’m proud of what we have achieved, in fact we all are. It’s hard work but definitely something we all enjoy."

The first performance was held on Wednesday and finishes tomorrow with matinee and evening shows.
