NEW funding is set to help provide a Men's Shed group on Anglesey acquire new IT equipment and woodworking tools.

The money provided through the Carling Made Local initiative and Robinson's Brewery will help Copr Men's Shed in Amlwch get the equipment they need for their project - including new laptops and a printer.

The community group is aimed at reducing loneliness and isolation amongst men living in the town and its surrounding areas.

Having access to a computer and the skills to use the technology effectively, particularly the internet, is invaluable for staying connected with family and friends.

Many of the 60-strong members are not IT literate and therefore the funding will be used for training as well as buying the new pieces of technology for the group.

In addition, funding has been put towards woodworking tools, including handsaws, screwdrivers and chisels, giving members the opportunity to create items such as bird boxes and tables.

On February 6, Copr Men’s Shed members visited Trecastell Hotel in Amlwch, the Robinsons pub that nominated the group for funding, to acknowledge their support.

As way of thanks, the group brought along wooden planters to sit on the pub decking, made using the funded tools.

Copr Men's shed chairman Ray Barrett said: “We set up the Men’s Shed last year to bring men together and get them involved in the community. Through various activities such as gardening, we’ve helped them forge new friendships.

"This is really important in Amlwch where men in particular have become isolated due to the loss of industry and closure of community spaces. We are hugely grateful for the funding from Carling and Robinsons, as it has given our members a renewed purpose by helping them learn new skills and revive old ones”.
